Traditional Saunas

A traditional sauna is a small room or building designed for heat sessions, usually constructed from wood. It is heated to a high temperature (between 158°F and 212°F) using a heater that is either wood-burning, electric, or gas-fired.

Inside the sauna, there are benches at different heights, allowing users to choose their preferred level of heat, with higher benches providing more intense heat. A key feature of the traditional sauna is the presence of sauna stones heated on top of a stove. Water poured onto these stones creates löyly, a burst of steam that increases humidity and intensifies the sensation of heat.

The sauna tradition is deeply rooted in the culture of Finland, and is not only about physical cleansing, but also about relaxation and socializing. After spending time in the sauna, it is common to cool off by rolling in the snow or jumping into a cold plunge! In Finland saunas are everywhere and are considered an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.
