Why We Chose This:
When you're investing in a sauna for your property, the first question isn't simply which sauna looks best or how quickly it heats up. It's what kind of sauna makes the most sense as a long-term investment.
That's why every sauna in our Boutique Retreat Collection is a traditional sauna—no infrared saunas.
An infrared sauna is a sauna device where the sauna room and the heater are integrated. Like any electronic device, it may need repair or replacement. It will probably not last for decades. When the infrared heating system malfunctions or needs to be replaced, the sauna becomes unusable.
A traditional sauna is completely different.
It's a sauna room PLUS a separate heating device.
The sauna room is the permanent part of the investment. The heater is a separate, replaceable component. A well-built sauna room can remain part of your home or property for decades, while the heater can be serviced or replaced separately when necessary.
That's an important distinction when you're investing in a permanent wellness feature.
You're not investing in a device that happens to be a sauna. You're investing in a sauna room that has a separate heating device.
More Than Heat
There's a second major reason we chose traditional saunas: the sauna experience.
Traditional sauna bathing isn't simply about reaching a particular temperature. The sauna can be heated to whatever temperature feels comfortable to the person using it—from a gentler warming session, to the higher temperatures associated with traditional sauna bathing.
Water can be poured over heated stones to create steam and increase humidity, or one can simply enjoy dry heat.
Why Electric
For the Boutique Retreat Collection, we also made a deliberate decision to use electric heaters only, rather than saunas with wood-burning heaters.
Wood-burning saunas are wonderful for a home retreat, but for a property intended to be used by rotating guests, electric heating is simpler, safer, and easier to maintain. There is no firewood to store, no ashes to remove, and no additional fuel handling for property owners or cleaning staff.
It's a straightforward approach: clean, simple electricity.
Why Harvia KIP
We paired every sauna in the Boutique Retreat Collection with a Harvia KIP Electric Sauna Heater because it fits the needs of a guest-operated property exceptionally well.
The KIP is a wall-mounted traditional sauna heater with built-in controls, making operation straightforward for guests without requiring a separate control system or book of instructions. It has a long history in sauna applications and is known for its simple design and dependable performance.
It also uses a relatively modest amount of sauna stones compared to other heaters, and combined with its simple design, it is a relatively low-cost sauna heater—without compromising performance, safety, or reliability.
And because the heater is separate from the sauna room itself, it can be replaced independently when the time eventually comes.
We also include a heater safety railing to create a clear physical reminder that the heater is hot and should not be touched.
Lighting
The sauna includes an integrated multicolor LED light bar designed to add another layer to the sauna experience. Choose from white, red, blue, or green light to create different atmospheres.
The lighting is integrated into the sauna rather than added as an afterthought, giving the room a soft, modern glow that complements the natural wood and creates a more immersive wellness environment.
The full-glass front gives the Element series saunas an open, architectural feel, allowing the sauna to become part of the surrounding space and its lighting.
Why We Chose The Element Series Saunas
We chose them because they gets the basics right: Traditional sauna bathing.
A sauna room built to last: Thermo Grandis thermowood gives the sauna its warm, sophisticated appearance while providing the durability, moisture resistance, and stability required to last for decades.
