Why We Chose This
When you're investing in a sauna for your property, the first question isn't simply which sauna looks best. It's what kind of sauna makes the most sense as a long-term investment.
That's why every sauna in our Boutique Retreat Collection is a traditional sauna—not an infrared sauna.
An infrared sauna is a sauna device, where the room and the heater are integrated. Like any device, its components have a finite service life. When the heating system eventually fails or needs to be replaced, the investment is tied to the life of that integrated product.
A traditional sauna is completely different.
It's a sauna room PLUS a separate heating device.
The sauna room is your long-term investment. The sauna heater is a separate, replaceable heating device. A well-built sauna room can remain part of a property for decades, while the heater can be serviced or replaced independently as needed.
That's an important distinction when you're investing in a long-term wellness feature.
You're not investing in a device that happens to be a sauna. You're investing in a sauna room plus a separate heating device.
More Than Heat
There's another reason we chose traditional saunas: the experience.
Traditional sauna bathing isn't simply about reaching a particular temperature. The sauna can be heated to whatever temperature feels comfortable to the person using it—from a gentler warming session to the higher temperatures associated with traditional sauna bathing to no heat at all!
Water can be poured over heated stones to create steam and increase humidity, or one can simply enjoy the dry heat. And even without any heat, the sauna room itself can simply be a quiet, private place to sit, meditate, read, or have a private moment.
Why Electric
For the Boutique Retreat Collection, we also made a deliberate decision to use electric heaters rather than saunas with wood-burning heaters.
Wood-burning saunas are wonderful, but for a property intended to be used by rotating guests, electric heating is simpler and easier to maintain. There is no firewood to store, no ashes to remove, and no additional fuel handling for property owners or cleaning staff.
It's a straightforward approach: clean, simple electricity.
Why Harvia KIP
We paired every sauna in the Boutique Retreat Collection with a Harvia KIP Electric Sauna Heater because it fits the needs of a guest-operated property exceptionally well.
The KIP is a wall-mounted traditional sauna heater with built-in controls, making operation straightforward for guests without requiring a separate control system or book of instructions. It has a long history in sauna applications and is known for its simple design and dependable performance.
It also uses a relatively modest amount of sauna stones compared to other heaters, and combined with its simple design, it is a relatively low-cost sauna heater—without compromising performance, safety, or reliability.
And because the heater is separate from the sauna room, it can be replaced independently when the time eventually comes.
We also include a heater safety shield to create a clear physical reminder that the heater is hot and should not be touched.
Lighting
A traditional sauna light provides the warm, classic illumination associated with sauna bathing, while the cedar shade protects the light and adds a natural architectural detail that complements the sauna's wood construction.
We also include a multicolor LED light bar, adding a visual layer to the sauna experience. Light can be set to white, red, blue, or green to create the desired atmosphere.
Together, the two lighting options let you choose between the simplicity of traditional sauna lighting and a more contemporary, ambient experience.
Why We Chose the MiniPOD for Our Pod Sauna
The pod design, with its long windowed door and asphalt-shingled exterior, creates a charming, Old World, whimsical atmosphere that fits nicely on a variety of decks and outdoor living spaces. Designed for shared use, the spacious interior comfortably seats up to four people.
Eastern White Cedar gives this sauna its natural durability and warmth, designed to last in all types of outdoor weather conditions.
The included accessories complete the experience with a thermometer, sand timer, and traditional wooden bucket and ladle.
