Why We Chose A Traditional Sauna:

When you're investing in a sauna for your property, the first question isn't simply which sauna looks best. It's what kind of sauna makes the most sense as a long-term investment.

That's why every sauna in our Boutique Retreat Collection is a traditional sauna—not an infrared sauna.

An infrared sauna integrates its heating technology directly into the sauna enclosure. Like any technology, its components have a finite service life, and repairs or replacement can be more involved when the heating system is integrated into the unit.

A traditional sauna takes a different approach.

It's a sauna room plus a separate heating device.

The sauna room is the long-term investment. The heater is a separate, replaceable component that can be serviced or replaced independently when needed. A well-built sauna room can remain part of a property for decades while its heating system can be updated over time.

That's an important distinction when you're investing in a long-term wellness feature for a property.

You're not investing in a device that happens to be a sauna. You're investing in a sauna room plus a separate heating device.

More Than Heat:

There's another reason we chose traditional saunas: the experience.

Traditional sauna bathing isn't simply about reaching a particular temperature. The sauna can be heated to whatever temperature feels comfortable—from a gentler warming session to the higher temperatures associated with traditional sauna bathing.

Water can be poured over the heated stones to create steam and increase humidity, or you can simply enjoy the dry heat.

And the sauna doesn't have to be hot at all. The room itself can be a quiet, private place to sit, meditate, read, relax, or simply enjoy a moment away from the rest of the property.

Why Electric:

For the Boutique Retreat Collection, we made a deliberate decision to use electric heaters rather than wood-burning heaters.

Wood-burning saunas are wonderful, but for a property used by rotating guests, electric heating offers a simpler experience for both property owners and guests. There's no firewood to store, no ashes to remove, and no additional fuel handling for property owners or cleaning staff.

It's a straightforward approach: clean, simple electricity.

Why Harvia KIP:

We paired every sauna in the Boutique Retreat Collection with a Harvia KIP Electric Sauna Heater because it fits the needs of a guest-operated property exceptionally well.

The KIP is a wall-mounted traditional sauna heater with built-in controls, making operation straightforward for guests without requiring a separate control system.

Its straightforward design has a long history in sauna applications and is well suited to properties where simplicity, reliability, and ease of operation matter.

The KIP also uses a relatively modest amount of sauna stones compared with many larger stone-filled heaters, helping keep the system straightforward while still delivering the heat and steam experience expected from a traditional sauna.

And because the heater is separate from the sauna room, it can be serviced or replaced independently when the time eventually comes.

We also include a heater safety shield, creating a clear physical boundary around the heater and helping remind guests that the heater and stones become extremely hot during operation.

Lighting:

A traditional sauna light provides the warm, classic illumination associated with sauna bathing, while the cedar protective shade shields the light and adds a natural architectural detail that complements the sauna's wood construction.

We also include a multicolor LED light bar, adding a contemporary layer to the sauna experience. The light can be set to white, red, blue, or green to create the desired atmosphere.

Together, the two lighting options let guests choose between the simplicity of traditional sauna lighting and a more contemporary, ambient experience.

Why We Chose the Avalon for Our Boutique Retreats:

The Avalon outdoor sauna is constructed from premium Grade-A solid cedar, which is naturally resistant to rot, decay, and insects, making it well suited to outdoor use through changing seasons.

Built with substantial 2¾-inch cedar log walls, the Avalon delivers exceptional durability, natural beauty, and the classic character of a true timber sauna. Its striking standing-seam black metal roof features a generous overhang that provides added protection from the elements while giving the sauna a clean, contemporary architectural finish.

A large tempered-glass front window fills the interior with natural light and frames beautiful outdoor views.

One of the Avalon's defining features is its spacious three-tier bench system, designed to give bathers greater flexibility in how they experience the heat. Move to the upper level for the fullest heat and most intense sauna experience, settle into the middle level for a more moderate session, or use the lower level when entering, cooling down, or simply preferring gentler heat.

With generous room for sitting, stretching out, and enjoying the sauna with family and friends, the Avalon's three-tier layout is designed not simply to accommodate more people, but to create a more flexible and immersive sauna experience.

The included accessories complete the experience with a cedar thermometer, wall-mounted sand timer, and traditional wooden bucket and ladle, along with comfortable cedar headrests and backrests.
